Animated GIF showing the composition of wood: 40% cellulose, 30% hemicellulose, and 30% lignin, illustrated by different material portions on a wood cross-section.

Sustainable raw material from the pulp and paper industry

In pulp mills, cellulose and hemicelluloses for textiles, paper, bioethanol and biopolymers are obtained from wood chips (100% sustainable raw material from the forestry and timber industry).

What remains is lignin – previously largely unused and expensive to dispose of. Instead of burning this lignin, AgroBiogel uses it as the basis for our innovative water and nutrient storage system.

Filtration - Raw material extraction

Through our innovative filtration process, we obtain the high-quality lignin for the production of RETENTIS® – entirely without chemical additives and sustainably.

Naturally networked, maximum performance

The lignin molecules are cross-linked into a three-dimensional structure using a purely biological process. This occurs entirely without chemical additives or pressure, thus giving RETENTIS® its exceptional water and nutrient storage capacity in a completely sustainable manner.

Drying - The final step to water and nutrient storage granules

Our innovative belt drying system gently dries the gel into the final, highly effective RETENTIS® granulate. It's stable in storage and ready for immediate use.
